The Way I See the Future of Print Journalism
General Director of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Francis Gurry told that traditional print media is completely cease to exist by 2040, and in the United States, this could happen in six years - in 2017. I agree with him. Newspapers have not yet started to shut down in large numbers, but it is only a matter of time. Over the next few decades half the rich world's general papers may fold. Jobs are already disappearing. We can call newspapers and magazines an endangered species. This is an inevitable evolution, in which electronic media are replacing paper. It's not bad or good - it is an evolution. For example in U.S the e-book selling has already exceed the traditional, and there is becoming smaller and smaller libraries in cities across the country. One of the possible problems associated with the disappearance of the printed edition, can be the authors payments, publishers, because they will not receive income from the distribution of printed materials.
Of all the “old” media, newspapers have the most to lose from the Internet, the way that ever more young people are getting their news online. Britons aged between 15 and 24 say they spend almost 30% less time reading national newspapers once they start using the web. Anyone looking for information has never been better equipped. People no longer have to trust a handful of national papers or, worse, their local city paper. News-aggregation sites such as Google News draw together sources from around the world. The website of Britain's Guardian now has nearly half as many readers in America as it does at home. In addition, a new force of “citizen” journalists and bloggers is itching to hold politicians to account.
Why do advertisers prefer the Internet to newspapers?
The internet is a seductive medium that supposedly matches buyers with sellers and proves to advertisers that their money is well spent. Moreover, everybody know Slando, Avito, Darom, the groups of free classified-advertisement websites that has probably done more than anything to destroy newspapers' income.
When we are talking about news in the Internet there are pros and cons. First of all the Internet is the best way to know different news throughout the world. Moreover people can choose the sources of information. It can be official sites of newspapers or magazines and also blogs and forums. The Internet contains all forms of the obtaining the information: radio, TV and Print Journalism.
With regards to cons the Internet is available for everybody. That’s why so many rumors and gossip in the network.
